2024 Oscar Recap
The 2024 Oscars came with a few surprises and unexpected winners for an exciting evening that ends the awards season. From a different format for presenting to joyous performances for the best song, the night will surely be viewed all over social media platforms again and again.
Jimmy Kimmel opened the night with highlights and jokes about the biggest movies of the year and the best picture nominations. This being his 4th year hosting the awards show, there is no awkwardness or unsureness from the host. Despite the show starting an hour earlier it still managed to run about the same time length, and some audiences needed to be more impressed by this marketing move to gain more viewers. The new format for best actors and supporting actors with past winners presenting as a panel was a great update to the traditional way of presenting these awards. This gave audiences a window into who the nominees were as individuals and separated them from their nominated performances. It also gave audiences a glimpse into who is friends with whom in Hollywood.
The best song performances ranged from a heartfelt and intimate performance by Billie Eilish & Finneas to an over-the-top "I'm Just Ken" performance by Ryan Gosling, with a nod to "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes", and special star-studded performers Slash and Wolfgang Van Halen. Jon Batiste performed his loving song written for his wife by himself at a piano. Finally, the impactful performance by Scott George and the Osage Singers brought to life the song 'Wahzhazhe (A Song For My People)' from the nominated film "Killers of the Flower Moon".
The 2024 Oscars will be remembered with several first-time Oscar nominees taking home statues and viral performances that will be remembered for years to come.
